Denim Air was founded in February 1996. We started out with scheduled services; three return flights per day between Eindhoven Airport and London City. These services were terminated in March 1997, because of heavy competition from so-called low cost carriers.

In that year the course of Denim Air was drastically altered. Denim Air was completely reorganized and was structured to serve the wet lease market. This proved to be very successful. Soon Denim Air grew enormously. The aircraft fleet needed expansion up to 14 Fokker 50 aircraft and the number of employees increased exponentially.

In April of 1998 Denim Air became a fully approved JAR-OPS 1 operator and a training centre for cabin and flight personnel. In 1999 Air Nostrum, a Spanish regional airline, acquired 100% of the shares and thereby became the parent company.

In January 2001 we introduced a new type of aircraft next to the Fokker 50, namely the Dash 8 Q315. As from then we had 14 Fokker 50’s and 5 Dash 8’s up in the air. In 2003 a management buy out was performed and the Denim Air Group was owned by its Dutch management team.

In December 2004 Denim Air became an EASA Part 145 approved organisation. In July 2005 Panta Holdings took over the shares and became 100% owner of the Denim Air Group. Denim air operates mainly on the ACMI market. October 2009 we saw the inauguration of our showpiece: the first Fokker 100.

Beginning 2010, Denim Air could also not escape from the effects of the financial crises. Due to overcapacity worldwide, former customers became competitors. Denim Air was forced to restructure and continue under the name Denim Air ACMI. This entity made a successful restart and strongly focussed from the beginning at various wet lease activities e.g. oil & gas support, remote operations.

Looking at a few milestones from the past e.g. Denim was the first airline in the Netherlands achieving the IOSA-approval and as a crew supplier, Denim trained 16 pilots for KLM. Now, Denim Air achieved a new milestone: we are the first airline in the Netherlands with a NL-CAA accepted Safety Management System!
